Places to See Cherry Blossoms in the Kitakyushu Area
Kokura Castle (Kitakyushu City)
Kokura Castle, a majestic structure in Katsuyama Park known for its beautifully maintained lawns and gardens, is the symbol of Kitakyushu and Kokura. It’s also a famous cherry blossom viewing spot, attracting many visitors each year when its 300 cherry trees are in bloom in the shadow of the soaring Kokura Castle, making for a truly spectacular sight! The Lone Cherry Tree of Asai (Kurume City)
A majestic 110-year-old Yamazakura cherry with a height of 18 meters and a circumference of 4.3 meters. The Lone Cherry Tree of Asai is lovingly protected by the locals and blossoms beautifully in early April. Taishojin Park (Iizuka City)
This nature-rich hill park is located at an elevation of 112 meters. It’s a popular cherry blossom viewing spot thanks to its 2,500 Yoshino cherry trees that are in full bloom from late March to early April, turning the park paths into magical tunnels of cherry blossoms! Taishojin Park is simply a wonderful place to enjoy a stroll while reveling in the warmth of spring. An annual cherry blossom festival is held on the park grounds, entertaining guests with stage performances and mochi throwing, when rice cakes are thrown to a gathered crowd. And at night, the entire park is lit up! Don’t miss it if you’re ever in the area.
