Yamakasa festivals all over the place

The Hakata Gion Yamakasa is Hakata's signature festival and has over 780 years of history. This is a ritualistic event to pray for good health that is dedicated to Kushida Shrine, protector of Hakata, featuring towering decorative floats (these are the "yamakasa").
A number of yamakasa festivals are held around northern Kyushu, reflecting the influence of Hakata across the region. Check out the unique local take on the floats and immerse yourself in a spectacular traditional event passed down the generations.
