Chinkokuji Temple

Chinkokuji Temple is the oldest temple of the Shingon sect, said to have been founded by Kobo Daishi (Kukai) in 806, and the Gobutsu-do hall enshrines the principal image of the five Buddhas, which are the original forms of Munakata Daimyojin. The name derives from the fact that it was opened as a basic dojo where people prayed for the protection of the nation and the happiness of all people. It flourished as a shrine temple of Munakata Taisha Shrine, with seven halls of temples, receiving the imperial wishes of successive imperial families starting with Emperor Saga.

The temple is also known as the "Temple of Flowers and Prayers" as you can enjoy seasonal flowers throughout the year.
