[Cancelled in 2021] Japan's largest gate pine tree festival and light-up.

【2021年は中止】日本一の大門松祭・ライトアップ

Bring good fortune with the giant kadomatsu, a winter tradition in Wakamiya City!

Japan's No.1 Daimonmatsu Festival is a year-end and New Year's tradition in Miyawaka City. Every year, on the first Sunday of December, when the large wooden pine tree is unveiled, stage events such as taiko drum performances and performances by local children are held. The festival also attracts many people who enjoy the early New Year's mood with stalls selling rice cakes and oden (dumplings).
The two large gate pine trees set up against the backdrop of a mountain village rich in nature are the pride of the volunteers who love Miyawaka and spent about a month making them, using an abundance of about 350 bamboos cut from the local mountains. It is approximately 9.5 m high and the diameter of the base is approximately 5 m. The pine, bamboo and plum trees are boldly used as they are for the pine, bamboo and plum decorations. The beauty, massiveness and elegance of the structure make it truly the best in Japan!
From sunset to 22:00, it is colourfully illuminated for a different view.
The festival culminates in the Dondoyaki, where a bamboo yagura made from the dismantling of Japan's largest monmatsu is burnt along with New Year's shimenzakari and other decorations to pray for good health and good fortune throughout the year.
