Former Miike Coal Mine Miyaura Pit (Miyaura Coal Memorial Park)

In 1887 (Meiji 20), one of the main coal pits of the Miike mine, Miyaura Pit was opened.
The existing chimney was constructed in 1888 (Meiji 21). Its height is 31.2 meters (102.4 feet). Diameter at the top is 2.9 meters (9.5 feet) and 4.3 meters (14.11 feet) at the base. The chimney was designated a Cultural Asset of Japan on January 16, 1998 (Heisei 10).
The mine is the oldest Japanese industrial complex focusing on coal as a raw material. It is now the Miyaura Coal Memorial Park.
