Ozashiki Plum Grove Seikien

御座敷梅林　青輝園

A must-see spot for plum blossoms and fragrance in a large garden and old sitting room.

Seikien was the gardener for the Tachibana clan (Yanagawa clan) during the Edo period, and owns an ancient red bush warbler, which is very rare in Japan, hundreds of varieties of flowering plum bonsai, a 300-year-old five-leaf pine tree and several thousand pots of bonsai.
The garden handles seeds, garden plants and gardening supplies, and has a large number of large bonsai on display in its vast grounds of approximately 2,000 tsubo, some of which are over 2 metres in height. The Old Bonsai Exhibition Hall on the grounds displays many old plum bonsai trees, some of which are 100-200 years old, and the air is filled with the sweet fragrance of the trees.
The 'Gozashiki Plum Grove Plum Blossom Viewing Party' held from early Feb to mid-Mar is a spectacular event, with 300 pots of flowering plum bonsai trees between 60 and 300 years old lined up in the tatami room of an old private house built in the early Showa period.
From mid-June to mid-July, an oriental lily exhibition is held. Enjoy a relaxing time at a place where you can admire the plum blossoms in spring and the lilies in early summer.
