“Spectacles Bridge” in Akizuki
秋月・目鏡橋
Spanning the Notori River at the entrance to the castle town of Akizuki, the “Spectacles Bridge” (a fixed-arch stone bridge) was built in 1810 with the help of stone masons from Nagasaki. It was previously called “Nagasaki Bridge” but is now well-known as the Spectacles Bridge. It is the only arch bridge in Japan constructed with granite and was deemed a Municipally-Designated Tangible Cultural Asset in April 1956.
