Autumn Leaves of Chikushi-Yabakei
筑紫耶馬渓の紅葉
Autumn leaves spots that are easily accessible from central Fukuoka.
The clear Naka River originates in Mt Sefuri and Mt Kuusenbu, flows through the centre of Fukuoka City and empties into Hakata Bay.
The valley upstream of the Naka River, from around the Minamihata Power Station to the Minamihata Dam, is called Tsutaru-kyo (Tsutaru Gorge) and is known as Chikushi-Yabakei. Minamihata Park near the Minamihata Dam has a pavilion and rest area where visitors can enjoy the beauty of the valley in each of the four seasons.
Especially during the autumn leaf colour season, the park is crowded with people seeking solace from the beautiful coloured trees.
The accessibility of the park, which is less than 30 minutes by car from central Fukuoka, makes it a popular scenic spot.
