Houmansan (Mt.)
宝満山
Dazaifu's sacred mountain with spectacular views and nature's healing powers.
Mount Homan, also known as Mt Kamado, straddles the cities of Dazaifu and Chikushino. It has long been revered as a mountain where gods descend. In recognition of its close relationship with Dazaifu in ancient times, the mountain was designated as a national historic site, the third in the country after Chokaisan and Mt Fuji, as a 'sacred mountain' of faith.
The mountain is dotted with numerous historical sites, and the Kamimiya Shrine of the Kamogamon Shrine is located on the summit of the mountain, reached after climbing the endless 100 stone gangi (stone steps).
From the top, the view over the city is spectacular, and the seasonal beauty of the fresh greenery in spring and the autumn leaves in autumn attracts many climbers throughout the year.
