Hakata Hot Springs (Hakata Hot Springs Inn Association)
博多温泉 元湯
Just 5 kilometers (3 miles) from Fukuoka City’s Tenjin (the largest business and entertainment district in Kyushu), the Hakata Hot Springs pride themselves on their high temperatures (between 44 [111] and 49 [120] degrees Celsius [Fahrenheit]) and abundant waters. Scattered over a roughly one kilometer (less than one mile) radius, they are the city’s “hidden” hot springs. Of the four bathing spots, two are traditional Japanese inns and can accomodate lodgers while the others are for day-trippers. Guests at the inns can delight their tastebuds with the catch of the day from the Genkai sea and Hakata’s famous “mizutaki” (chicken and vegetable hot pot)! *Inquire directly with inns about availability.
*About the Hot Springs: Effective in treating neuralgia, rheumatism, muscle and joint pain, chronic digestive diseases, hemorrhoids, and wounds. Silky smooth waters leave your skin feeling soft. Said to be effective in treating skin problems like heat rash, which can be cleared up after just one dip! Drinking the water is said to help alleviate internal distress.
