Made with plums beloved by Sugawara no Michizane Tenjin-sama-no-Ume
道真公が愛した梅からつくられる 天神さまの梅
Handmade ’umeboshi’ (salted plums) made using plum fruits collected from the plum trees on the grounds of Dazaifu Tenman-gu Shrine. These plums were greatly beloved by Sugawara no Michizane. At the Dazaifu Tenman-gu, there are numerous blooming plum trees dedicated in reverence to Sugawara no Michizane; the plums picked from these trees are used to make a pickled specialty using only shiso and salt. There is a limited quantity available on the 25th of every month; every year on the 1st of November, the ’first plum’ is sold.
