Hakoshima Shrine
箱島神社
Power spot for matchmaking floating on the sea
This cute shrine with a small torii gate stands on a small island jutting out from the shore.
Many women visit the shrine because Aizen Myoo, the god of love, is enshrined here. The shrine is also believed to be the god of the ear, and it is said that if you blow your ears with the dedicated fire-breathing bamboo (bamboo tube), you will be cured of ear diseases.
Surrounded by the sea on three sides, the location is as mysterious as if it were floating on the sea. The sunset, which can be seen throughout the year, is also exceptional.
There are no bridges at present, and the island cannot be reached during high tide because of the sandy beach.
