Enjujisone’s Wax Trees
延寿寺曽根のハゼ並木
A row of wax trees planted along the banks of the mountain stream at Enju-ji at the foot of Mt. Mino. The fruits of these wax trees were used in the production of Japan wax from the mid-Edo period to the early Showa period. The young leaves in spring are pleasant, but this spot is always bustling with sightseers in fall when the 130 wax trees spanning ~800m are dyed with blazing autumn colors. The trees are illuminated at night during the autumn leaves period, which allows visitors to enjoy a different aspect of the wax trees’ beautiful autumnal leaves that does not appear in the daytime.
Autumn leaf season
Late November - Mid-December
