Traditional beauty adorns the Dolls’ Festival

雛祭りを彩る伝統美

When the season of the Dolls’ Festival comes, beautiful ”sagemon” hanging decorations can be seen around Yanagawa City. Among them, the most prominent are the beautifully patterned Yanagawa Mari. The locally born poet Kitahara Hakushu wrote in a poem that Yanagawa Mari are filled with the thought that granddaughters should be brought up to have a lovely and serious character.
Yanagawa Mari, still handmade one by one, were mainly made with plant dyes and cotton thread in the past. Now, lily yarn and other threads are used to make Mari with beautiful sparkle and patterns.
You can enjoy it as a beautiful decoration during the season of the festival and you can enjoy buying them or trying a production experience throughout the year.
