Minagi Sugar, handed down from ancient times

いにしえより伝わる黒糖・三奈木砂糖

As a local specialty of Akizuki domain, it has been produced since the Edo period. Even now, sugar cane has still harvested in Asakura region and the processing methods squeezing sugar canes and heated by firewood have been conveyed to the future generations

According to one story about Minagi sugar, it’s said it was made as the special product of a former clan from the Bunsei era (late 1800s) and in its golden age there were 12 waterwheels dedicated to squeezing sugar and around 500 hectares of sugarcane fields cultivated in the heart of the Minagi area.
The old method of sugar production is used even now, using firewood to heat and process the sugar.
