The Great Icicle of Kawaradani (a.k.a. Nanshogataki Waterfall)
河原谷の大つらら(通称:難所ヶ滝)
Spectacular winter scenery! Spectacular ice sculptures created by nature
Kawaradani's Great Tsurara (commonly known as Nanshogataki Waterfall) is located in Kawaradani Valley in the Sangunsan Mountains.
From January to February, rain and melting snow seeping from the rocks freezes and freezes on the rock surfaces, forming icicles.
When the cold weather intensifies, the icicles can become as large as 20 meters high. The icicles form a series of icicles that look like an icefall.
The best time to see the icicles is in the morning after a cold spell, when the temperature is as low as possible.
It takes about 2.5 to 3 hours to walk from the Ipponmatsu Park (Showa-no-mori) parking lot to the Great Icicle in Kawaradani and back. Climbers should bring warm clothing and climbing gear such as crampons.
