Jokoji Temple Wisteria Festival

【2025年は中止】浄光寺 藤まつり

The flowers blooming on the large wisteria tree, a natural monument, are a sight to behold.

Jokoji Temple, also known as "Wisteria Temple," is located in Munakata City. There are three huge wisteria trees in the precincts of the temple that are more than 100 years old and are designated as natural monuments of the city.
The wisteria is said to have been planted by Miyoshi Kogan, the 31st abbot of Jokoji Temple, and blooms beautifully every spring. The "Jokoji Wisteria Festival" is held from mid to late April, when the wisteria is at its best.
The spectacular clusters of flowers hanging down from the wisteria trellis, which stretches approximately 19 meters from east to west and 18 meters from north to south, are a sight to behold. The sweet fragrance of the lovely light purple, pink, and white flowers fills the precincts of the temple.
During the period, visitors can enjoy looking up at the wisteria trellis from benches. The wisteria trellis viewed from the "Takamidai" next to the main hall is also beautiful, so please visit.
