Miwa Senbei (cracker)

みわせんべい

Once approaching to the nostalgic building, visitors will smell of baking crackers in the air. At the store are cute size of crackers which are a little bit smaller than a palm. The makers in the back of the store are the Fukamachis. The wife, Mrs. Kyoko bakes the crackers and her husband, Mr. Kazunari arranges the shapes. The main ingredients of the cracker are egg, sugar, and flour. There are ten and more varieties of flavors like Maccha (powdered tea), Yuzu (yuzu citron) Pepper, and Ginger.These are free from additives. The ingredients have been also carefully prepared since the opening. For example, they powder black rices, beans, and sesames and salt beefsteak plants by themselves. What they think important is to ”prepare by themselves as far as they can”. Therefore, they can say their products are safe and healthy with confidence.
The cracker was first made about 60 years ago. Mrs. Kyoko’s father had studied and created it by himself and started the store in Amagi. The store was moved to Chikuzen Town (former Miwa Town) 20 years ago after she succeeded the store. The store has perfectly taken root in the area. Nowadays, their daughter, Ms. Noriko also works there and they are protecting their family recipe.
