Kuroda Clan Graveyard: Feudal Lords of Fukuoka
福岡藩主黒田家墓所
A historical graveyard on the northwest side of the grounds of Sofuku-ji, the Kuroda Clan temple. The ancestor of the Kurodas, Josui, as well as the first daimyo Nagamasa, the fourth daimyo Tsunamasa, the sixth daimyo Tsugutaka, the seventh daimyo Haruyuki, the ninth daimyo Naritaka and his family, are all enshrined here. It underwent reburial construction in Showa 25, part of some 20 stone pagodas were removed, including those of Josui, Nagamasa, and others, and new stone monuments were constructed for the Kuroda clan’s head family and branch families, and now a row of 12 stone pagodas stand there. Josui’s monument in particular contains an inscription by Genso Keitetsu (the 109th successor to Shofuku-ji Temple, a traveling priest who focused on relations with Korea and Ming China), and as the first erected, is valuable.
