Hirokawa Dam, Hirokawa Dam Park

広川ダム・広川ダム公園

A fresh space surrounded by deep and rich nature

The Hirokawa River runs east to west through the southern part of Hirokawa Town. Several weirs (headworks) along the way supply water for agriculture and enrich the rice paddies. In the past, the river frequently overflowed during heavy rains, flooding the fields and villages along the river. In 1972, a dam with a storage capacity of approximately 1 million tons was constructed upstream in the Mizuhara area.
In spring, 500 cherry trees bloom beautifully, and in summer, it is a perfect recreational spot where visitors can enjoy forest bathing with the sounds of wild birds and plenty of negative ions. It is also popular among fishing enthusiasts as trout, carp, and wakasagi can be caught here! The dam side of the park is a natural park where man-made and natural environments are blended. There is a creek using the river flowing into the dam, a vast lawn area, and an observatory from which you can enjoy a panoramic view of the dam and surrounding landscape.
