Torikai Hachiman-gu shrine
鳥飼八幡宮
The roots of the Torikai Hachiman-gu shrine are said to be in the shrine built in ancient times by the Empress Jingu in Torikaimura to celebrate the future of the child she was carrying (later to be Emperor Ojin). The shrine offers a place of spirituality for people in their daily lives, as well as on special occasions such as weddings and ceremonies to ward off evil. Moreover, the god enshrined in the shrine is Tamayori-bime, the god of bindings, also famed as the god of marriage. The shrine also performs Shinto weddings, and even hosts seminars to improve your chances in marriage market, which is something that not many Shinto shrines do. In front of the shrine office stands the thousand year old sago palm, said to have sprung up there after Takenouchi no Sukune, a follower of Empress Jingu, prayed for a safe journey and a safe delivery of the baby Empress Jingu was carrying. It is therefore believed that a wish written on a plate and hung on the this tree will come true. According to a legend, Takenouchi no Sukune lived for 400 years, which is why it is also said that wishing upon this this tree will grant you a long life. Moreover, enshrined in the subordinate shrine is Nadeushi, which is said to heal ilness and injuries if you caress it in the same spot that you are hurting.
