Fukutsu City Comprehensive Sports Park: Namazu no Sato
福津市総合運動公園 なまずの郷
The grounds of Namazu no Sato (Catfish Village) span an enormous 147,000㎡, where men and women of all ages, gather to enjoy the park’s cultural, welfare, sports, and recreation facilities. Just like the name implies, catfish swim in the ponds on the premises. The facilities are quite extensive, including tennis courts, an archery shoot, kyudo (traditional Japanese archery) dojo, baseball diamond, gateball pitch, and multipurpose grounds, which can be used for anything from private games to full-blown tournaments. The baseball diamond and tennis courts are equipped with lights, and can be used at night. Children can enjoy the playground in the athletics square and the central square’s fountains. You can feed the carp in the elegant Japanese-style gardens, and jog or walk around the 1-circuit 1,200m garden path. The viewing platform over looks the gardens for a vast and invigorating scene. In the spring the cherry blossoms, sweet flag, wisteria, and other flowers bloom wildly, giving an impression of the four seasons. Tennis lessons are held on site, and those interested should inquire (1 trial lesson is 1,050 Yen). There’s no doubt that exercising in a park surrounded by greener is good for the mind and body.
