The island of Hashima (commonly known as Gunkanjima) was once a prosperous coal mining town where many people lived. The 2.5-hour cruise takes you to the island which became uninhabited when the mine closed in 1974, and you can disembark and see it up close as you reflect on the history of the coal mines and life at the time.
*Advance reservations are required for Gunkanjima landing and cruise tours. The departure point for the cruises differs depending on the tour company. In this case, we have listed Nagasaki Port Terminal as an example.

This is one of the three largest Chinatowns in Japan, along with Yokohama and Kobe. The crossroads, which are about 250 m long, are lined with many Chinese restaurants and general stores. In addition to Nagasaki specialties such as champon (a noodle soup local to Nagasaki) and sara udon (fried noodles topped with vegetables, seafood, and meat), we also recommend strolling around and trying Chinese confections and pork buns(Chinese braised pork belly sandwich buns).

The oldest surviving church in Japan, with a beautiful blend of Japanese and Western architecture

A gothic-style church with beautiful stained glass windows. It was built in the Nagasaki foreign settlement after the country opened up to the outside world at the end of the Edo period (1603-1868), and is known to be the oldest surviving church in Japan. It is one of the properties that make up the “Hidden Christian Sites in the Nagasaki and Amakusa Regions” registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2018.

Exuding an exotic atmosphere, this is one of Nagasaki's most popular tourist spots. Nine Western-style buildings from the Meiji period (1868-1912), including the former Glover Residence, have been relocated and restored. The park is situated in an ideal location overlooking Nagasaki Harbor, and is perfect for a stroll through the park gaily decorated with seasonal flowers.

Nagasaki Peace Park, located on a small hill to the north of the Hypocenter Park, was established to demonstrate Japan's commitment toward preventing another tragic war, and its wish for world peace. Within the park, there is a Peace Statue, which prays for the souls of the atomic bomb victims, and a Fountain of Peace.

This is the sohongu (head shrine) of the approximately 12,000 Tenmangu shrines scattered across Japan. Well known for enshrining the god of learning, it attracts many worshippers from both Japan and overseas. The grounds are rich in nature, with as many as 6,000 plum trees, irises, camphor trees, and other plants that Michizane loved, so you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of each season.

This observation point is located on the 31st floor of a high-rise apartment building designed by Kisho Kurokawa, one of Japan's leading architects.
