Nakasu Zenzai

Take a break and enjoy gentle Zenzai
Nakasu Zenzai

This shop that serves zenzai, a Japanese confection featuring a soup of sweet red beans and rice dumplings, is located at the foot of the Suisha Bridge that connects Nakasu and Kawabata, just a short walk from Kushida Shrine. Countless people come to this popular shop even on weekdays in pursuit of their traditional flavor that hasn’t changed in the 70 years since they first opened.
Their main dish of Zenzai, featuring sweet red beans that offer a gentle taste on the palate and a sweetness that doesn’t leave an aftertaste, combined with aromatic rice dumplings, offers an indescribably tasty experience. The Zenzai is accompanied by a side dish of Kuki-wakame, or the stems of the wakame seaweed, flavored with shiso seed and just the right amount of salt, and it goes perfectly with the Zenzai.
If you come here in the summer, also don’t miss their elegant shaved ice featuring finely shaven ice topped with handmade syrup.
