This is a classic tour of Beppu's seven jigoku (hells), which are hot springs that have been gushing naturally from the ground for more than 1,000 years. Each of the jigoku is marked by its own distinctive characteristic, such as the beautiful color of the Umi Jigoku ("sea hell"), the bright red Chinoike Jigoku ("blood lake hell"), and the bubbling mud of Oniishi Bozu Jigoku ("monk's head hell"). If you want to visit all seven jigoku, we recommend getting a joint admission pass that gives you access into all of them.
