Fukuoka Castle Ruins Visitor Center
First learn the history of Fukuoka Castle
Here you can learn about the history of Fukuoka Castle through ancient maps and dioramas from a variety of angles. There is also a virtual movie that recreates Fukuoka Castle in computer graphics, during which the castle keep makes an appearance, a structure still shrouded in mystery.
You can also pick up the Fukuoka Castle Gojoin seal and stamps of the 100 top famous castles in Japan.

Korokan Ruins
A diplomatic guesthouse constructed during the Heian period
This is one of three guesthouses built for diplomatic visitors constructed throughout Japan during the Heian period (794 - 1185). It is the only one of those important structures for which surviving ruins have been found.
Don’t miss the full-scale reconstruction of the Shukubo accommodations building. Reconstructed based on materials dating from the time, it is exhibited in a way that you can understand the structure and how it was assembled.
Meanwhile, foundation stones and columns are on display exactly as they were discovered, unchanged from their original state.

Fukuoka Castle and Korokan Information Center "San-no-Maru Square"
Rent a kimono and head out on a walk through the park!
This museum that occupies the building of the former Maizuru Junior High School introduces the history of Fukuoka Castle and the Korokan using panel exhibits.
But if you want to rent a kimono, make sure to head to the Mayu-no-Kan. Here you will find kimonos in a wide range of sizes available fitting children to adults, and you don’t have to bring anything with you. The park here is filled with numerous spots that make perfect backdrops for taking pictures in your kimono, such as Japanese gardens and a Noh theater.

Fukuoka Castle Ruins
Ruins that teach the over four hundred years of history of one of Japan’s top 100 castles to future generations
Fukuoka Castle was constructed by Nagamasa Kuroda over a period of seven years starting in 1601. While the existence of the main castle keep is still unclear, this famous castle featured small, medium, and large towers and no less than 47 turrets. There is still plenty to see, with surviving structures including the Tamon-yagura, Kinen-yagura, Shimonohashigo-mon gate, and the Shiomi-yagura (yagura means tower).
The place is filled with cherry blossoms in full bloom in the springtime, and numerous revelers come to enjoy them. The other seasons are filled with elegant colorful blossoms as well, including plum, azaleas, peonies, irises, and other flowers throughout the year.

Fukuoka Prefecture Gokoku Shrine
This shrine located in the center of Fukuoka City enshrines the god of peace.
This shrine located to the south east of Ohori Park enshrines the spirits of soldiers from Fukuoka who lost their lives throughout history, from the Meiji Restoration (1868) to WWII (1945).
The grounds of this tranquil shrine surrounded in nature span over an area of over 66,000 square meters. A massive Torii gate reaching 13 meters in height, built using the complete trunks of hinoki cypress trees, stands over the approach to the shrine on the park side. It is one of the largest Torii gates in Japan made directly from logs, and the impressive sight is worth seeing.

Japanese Garden at Ohori Park
Experience the spirit of Japan in a traditional Japanese garden
This Japanese garden was built to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Ohori Park. Designed primarily to express classic Japanese concepts of beauty using traditional gardening methods, the different aspects of the garden throughout the seasons entertain visitors year round. Visitors can enjoy views of the garden from a variety of different angles as they travel along the garden path, including the main pond garden featuring a large pond and manmade hillocks, a curving, flowing stream, a dry garden, a teahouse constructed in the Sukiya-zukuri architectural style, and a smaller garden next to it.

A blissful lunchtime while gazing on the waterfront and lush greenery
This popular destination located inside Ohori Park features both a cafe and gallery. The interior, constructed with domestic cedar wood and large glass windows, is a healing space that offers a sense of the warmth of wood.
Guests at the cafe can enjoy Oinari-san rice rolls made with carefully selected ingredients from Fukuoka and Kyushu and Dashi Tamago-yaki Ozen, a set featuring scrambled egg made with broth that oozes juice when you bite in, accompanied with the famous green Yame tea of Fukuoka. For the ultimate experience, enjoy your lunch on the wide open terrace while taking in views of the park. Oinari-san rice rolls are also available for takeout, and make a gift that will be sure to please the recipient.

Ohori Park
An urban oasis in beautiful harmony with nature
This park that leverages the outer moat of Fukuoka Castle is one of the best parks in Japan featuring waterscape views. There is a walking path stretching approximately two kilometers around the circumference of the lake, and visitors can see countless flowers and birds throughout the four seasons.
The symbol of Ohori Park, a pavilion called the Ukimido, is located on an island in the center of the lake connected to the shore by four different bridges. The bright red pavilion and blue sky are reflected in the lake surface, offering an ideal spot to take pictures.

Ohori Park Noh Theater
A majestic Noh theater to conclude your stroll
The Noh Theater located in the north of Ohori Park is a full scale theater featuring a similar design to the National Noh Theater in Tokyo. The majestic beauty of this theater is certain to capture your fascination. The faint scent of Hinoki cypress calms the heart and evokes a mood of solemnity. The view of Ohori Park from inside the lobby is also a sight to see.
* If you wish to take a tour, please be sure to inquire at least two weeks in advance. Tours are only available when there are no performances or practices in session.
