Kigyosai Festival Yahata
まつり起業祭八幡
Kigyosai Festival Yahata is held in early November and represents the fall in Kitakyushu. It began in 1969 as a commemorative opening ceremony for government-owned Yawata Steel Works and became a civil festival in 1985, from which time various events have been planned every year.
The festival bustles with more than 600 thousand people every year! About 300 stalls line up around Otani Stadium, and events such as a 25-Hour-Marathon Relay Race, Dance Competition, and Famous TV Character Shows take place one after another! The highlight is the fireworks display.
A tour of the Yawata Steel Works is also recommended. Visitors can enter the area that is usually closed to unauthorized people and observe the process in which the long, red-hot steel gets manufactured into railing for bullet trains or steel sheet pile for civil engineering and construction.
