Taste the apples grown for holidaymakers, which are only sold here.
Kyushu Apple Village is a fruit-growing area where local farmers cultivate pears and apples on the slopes of Mount Umami at an altitude of about 300 metres. The area produces fruit with a high sugar content due to the large temperature difference between morning and evening.
The fruits, which are not shipped to the market but grown for holidaymakers, come in a wide range of varieties and have an unmistakeable taste. A total of about 7,000 fruit trees are cultivated, including nine varieties of pear (Shinsui and Kosui) and eight varieties of apple (Tsugaru and Akagi). It is also the pride of Chikuho's sightseeing farms, where visitors can enjoy apple picking from late August to late November.
A 'fruit fair' is usually held in mid-October every year, where freshly picked fruit can be purchased.
