Hakata Museum of Food and Culture HakuHaku
博多の食と文化の博物館 ハクハク
This exciting museum shares the renown “food,” “culture,” and “experiences” of Fukuoka and Hakata.
*Factory tours will be suspended from around mid-May to mid-July 2025. Please check the official website for details.
The mentaiko (seasoned cod roe) factory is operated by Fukuya, which manufactures and sells mentaiko. There are many ways to enjoy the charm of mentaiko here. In addition to the factory tour, visitors can enjoy a mentaiko making experience, a luxurious all-you-can-eat mentaiko set menu, and buy factory-exclusive products.
During the factory tour, you can actually see and learn about the mentaiko production process and get a closer look at its history and the secrets of its production.
At the “my handmade mentaiko experience,” held three times a day, visitors can make their own original mentaiko. Visitors can also compare mentaiko with different toppings and spiciness!
Fukuya's Mentaiko Chazuke, perfect for breakfast or lunch, is an all-you-can-eat mentaiko meal! In addition, you can taste various other mentaiko gourmet foods such as “Children's Mentaiko Chazuke” and “Mentaiko France,” which are not spicy.
There are also many souvenirs of Fukuoka and Hakata that can only be purchased here, including the factory's limited-edition “Barako with skin” and “freshly made raw mentaiko” that have never been frozen after production.
