Minoshima Beach
蓑島海水浴場
Popular for its shallow beach! Beaches where you can enjoy fishing and razor clams digging.
The beach is located at the tip of Minoshima Island in Yukuhashi City, overlooking the Suonada Sea. It is a beautiful beach with shallow waters and is crowded with bathers in summer. If the weather is fine, the arched bridge leading to Kitakyushu Airport can be seen from the beach.
From March to June, the beach is crowded with tourists who enjoy the spring tradition of mate-hori (razor clams digging) in Yukuhashi. Using salt to lure them out of their holes and quickly catching them is like playing a game, and both adults and children enjoy it immensely. You can also play on the rocks where crabs and small fish live, so be sure to wear sandals or boots with thick soles to avoid injury!
Nearby, there is also a kappo inn that serves fresh seafood landed at Minoshima Fishing Port, including mantis shrimp and blue crab.
