Kanmon Straits Candle Night

Candlelight in Shimonoseki and Moji, two areas across the Kanmon Straits

The "Kanmon Kaikyo Candle Night" is held in Mojiko Retro, Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture, and the Karato district of Shimonoseki City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, which are adjacent to each other across the Kanmon Straits.
The event, which started in Moji Ward, Kitakyushu City, was later joined by Shimonoseki City on the other side of the strait and is held annually, a rare candlelight event in which the lights are turned on simultaneously in the two cities.
Candles are elaborately lit at each site, creating a different kind of fantasy. Mojiko Port, with its nostalgic atmosphere, is illuminated by candlelight during Candle Night.
Lights up and illuminations are also held, and the night sky in late autumn is decorated with various lights.
