Ueno Ware Autumn Kiln Opening
上野焼「秋の窯開き」
A rare opportunity to casually pick up a new piece of "Ueno Ware," which boasts of its prestigious status.
Agano-yaki pottery in Fukuchi Town was first produced about 400 years ago when Hosokawa Tadaoki, a tea master and lord of the Kokura domain in Bizen at the time, invited potters from the Korean Peninsula to build a kiln in Ueno, which is designated as a national traditional craft.
The "Autumn Kiln Opening" is a popular event where participating potters showcase their newest and most creative creations. Many pottery fans from inside and outside of the prefecture come to visit.
At the "Ceramic Museum," where all the kiln makers' works are gathered, special events and sales of autumn-only vessels are held. We hope you will enjoy the charm of autumn in the village of ceramics as you visit and enjoy it with all your senses.
The "Ueno Yaki Spring Pottery Festival" is also held in late April every year.
