Kyushu Historical Museum
九州歴史資料館
This facility studies the history of Kyushu, from ancient to modern.
Kyushu, facing the Asian continent at the western edge of Japan, has long served as a gateway for exchange with the outside world. This museum was established in Dazaifu City in 1973 to bring light to the history and nature of Kyushu, after which it was later moved to Mitsusawa in Ogori in 2010.
The museum also puts effort into educational activities. In addition to researching the history of Dazaifu and serving as a research facility to unravel the history of ancient Kyushu, they also open their restoration work of uncovered artifacts to the public.
The museum features bright spaces occupying a glass walled building adjacent to the Mitsusawa Ruins, a prefectural-designated historical site. Visitors can observe the work of organizing, restoring, and preserving artifacts, view panel exhibits, and attend talk events and lectures.
